I tried to figure out a taste map of manhattan. I used Turkish restaurants to get my datas. I searched through their menus to find most frequently used words.
I like the idea, but visuals didn’t worked well. I should improve it. link

For my final project, I have 3 different ideas in my mind.
1) I can take data from last.fm and visualize user habits, but this seems very cliche.
2) I can, work on taste assignment. I can use foods and their tastes as my database. User can give his favorite food as an input, and application can recommend a different foods, which are similar to this. This is very similar to our first idea about wine(recommending food according to choice of wine)
3) I can visualize foods and their adjectives in terms of the countries that they belong to. So, we can see similar patterns or similar tastes between different countries. I think, I will work on this one.
Here is some visualizing samples that I found online. I think, I will work on something like those ones.
I couldn’t go to the class last week(11.11.2008), because I had an appointment with doctor. So, I try to do this assignment at home by myself. This assignment has a time limit(30 minutes), I spent most of the time to understand the code. Understanding somebodies code and revising it is always takes time. I just can change the color in that amount of time.
I started working on this project with Adam Harvey and Justin Donato. At the end of first week, Justin felt more comfortable with working alone. So, I and Adam continue working on it. There is still things to improve this one. I have to work on it.
this week, I have tried to code Ben Fry’s zipcode map. I am still getting some errors, I will try to solve them as soon as possible.
Also, i tried to make a visualization for smell. This application takes 20 different xml files(10 for bi receptors, 10 mono receptors, take 2 each time). There is a zoom application for it, but it doesn’t work properly(use arrow keys, shift and enter). Also by clicking “0″ you can see each path together, clicking “1″ clears the background. link
Assignment 1
I am planing to build an image, which is like a root of a tree. For this, I will put the top of the tree on the screen and I am planing to use some colored balls which will travel according to the data, and will draw the roots of the tree. I am planing to make it in 3D and have an ability to zoom in & out. I am planing to make my background black.

I think, I didn’t get what do you mean by saying larva, but I figure out (with the help of paper) it might be something like a real larva( I was expecting something different). I choose a hand drawing of it:
Assignment 2
http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/interactive/timelines/british/index.shtml
This site is about British history. They basically builded a time line and dive it according to time, each color gives the different time. When you click on a time, you can zoom in find informations about that time.

Also, this project is showing the different noise levels in different cities on billboards.

“Sound/Chair begins as a sound that is precisely crafted to form the shape of a chair when visualized as a 3-dimensional object using a volume, time, frequency plot. The chair is an exact replica of the soundwave graph. The result is a product with dual existence as both a sound and chair, and a new approach to designing products.”
This project was very challenging. Still I am not satisfied with what I did.
What I did was, I took a snapshot from a glass of bubble. Then, make edge detection on bubbles, and I got the edges of the bubbles. Afterwards, I make blob detection and get the blobs, I was planing to make something like a histogram, so we can see which side is whiter(image is black&white) so we can understand, what part has the most bubbles.
Here are the images:
this is the first draft What I did was, edge tracking and afterwards count the blobs and draw random blobs. However, I think this is not overlap with the concept of this class, and I have to improve it. So, I will make edge detection first. Figure out the blobs, give them new colors and make it available to zooming. So, This week my assignment is not ready as it supposed to be.
